Fabrication and placement of two ceramic crowns on upper incisors

Patient Natalia, 37 years old
Date 12.09.2023

Natalia came to us with a complaint of aesthetic dissatisfaction with two old composite restorations on teeth 1.2 and 1.1 and chipping of one of them.

Diagnostics. On clinical examination in the oral cavity, we see unsatisfactory composite restorations, teeth 1.2 and 1.1 are discolored as they have been previously endodontically treated. The restoration on tooth 1.2 is chipped and decayed. It was decided to replace the composite restoration on tooth 1.2 and to make two ceramic restorations on teeth 1.2 and 1.1.

Treatment progress

At the first visit, tooth 1.2 was treated, a composite core for the future ceramic crown was built up and two temporary restorations were made. At the second visit, teeth 1.2 and 1.1 were prepared for ceramic restorations, silicone impressions were made, and a photoprotocol was taken. A carefully performed photoprotocol was necessary to accurately transfer the color and texture of the two adjacent incisors 2.1 and 2.2 on the symmetrical side, so that the future restorations would not differ from her own teeth.

Treatment result

A week later, we received the finished ceramic restorations from the laboratory and invited the patient for a try in. We evaluated the aesthetics, color and fit of the crowns. After the patient’s approval, we proceeded with the fixation of the restorations. Fixation was performed in a rubberdam (isolation) with a full adhesive protocol for the best result.

No specific recommendations are imposed after fixation of ceramic restorations.
